WILL DARK THEME MAKE MY KITCHEN SPACE APPEAR SMALLER?

Dark colours absorb light rather than reflect it throughout a space. So this ‘can’ cause a room to feel more cramped.
Don’t let this put you off though. With a considered design and the right incorporation of lighting, it won’t matter what colour your kitchen is, it will still feel airy and spacious.
If your kitchen is really small, you may need to create more perceived space using lighter options.

BLACK DOESN’T HAVE TO MEAN MODERN
Black can work just as well with a contemporary handleless kitchen as a farmhouse style kitchen.
Black can change the mood of a space and give a sense of drama or even quiet and calm. It can create an atmosphere that encourages us to gather, entertain, eat and drink.
The best way to understand how a black kitchen design can work is to see some examples. Here’s some examples of darker kitchen designs.

Luxury Kitchen Ideas
HIGH QUALITY KITCHENS
Does black mean luxury? Brands often use black to signify exclusivity and glamor.
Black can be seen as a luxurious colour and in colour psychology, black’s colour meaning is symbolic of mystery, power, elegance, and sophistication.

Kitchen Flooring Ideas
CAN A KITCHEN FLOOR BE BLACK?
Dark floors are perfect for making a bold statement in a modern kitchen.
Using a dark floor to create contrast between lighter walls or cabinetry is a great way to make a room feel very contemporary.
Dark floors are often chosen to help hide dirt in high traffic areas or the odd spill but can be prone to showing more scratches than a lighter floor.

HOW WE USED DARK CABINETS WITH A POP OF COLOUR
In this project, our client wanted to update their kitchen with high quality appliances and add a pop of colour, whilst trying to create practical storage for the limited space available in their open city centre apartment.
When we first met this client, they came into the showroom and immediately fell in love with our display which featured these bright yellow worktops. By combining the Imperial Yellow and the contrasting Terra Oak doors, we were able to create the desired pop of colour whilst maintaining a modern, minimalistic look to the kitchen.
Black Kitchen FAQs
Apart from looking stunning when sunk into a white coloured worktop, the dark finish of a black kitchen sink means they can be much easier to keep clean, when compared to white ceramic options.
It may be worth checking however if you have very hard water as this can leave white marks on the sink.
Some harsher chemicals can also leave marks on your sink so its best to consider milder detergents when cleaning.
Black kitchens are in vogue for 2022-2023 and this trend will likely continue for many years.
Bold and striking to supremely elegant, black kitchen designs are trending. From all black to two-tone or monochrome the possibilities are endless, and when balanced with contrasting appliances, you may be surprised how dramatic, sophisticated and simply beautiful a darker theme looks.
Black can be good and also bad in this area. A dark kitchen floor can hide dirt, but as soon as something white is introduced, it can stand out.
e.g. White flour on black surface.
This is realistically the same as white, where something black on the surface will stand out.
e.g. Black peppercorns on a white surface.
Black has a reputation for being dark and dramatic, but also timeless and sophisticated.
It’s great for adding contrasts and making a statement. When done correctly, your kitchen will look totally luxurious.
From all-black kitchen cabinets, to accents black will transform your kitchen with a timeless, sleek look.
